how to fold your zine
one sheet · a few folds · one cut · eight pages
Print each sheet at 100% / actual size, landscape. Not “fit to page”.
Fold long
Fold in half the long way, pictures outside. Crease well, then unfold.
Fold short
Fold in half the short way, then fold each half back to the middle. You get 8 panels. Unfold.
Cut
Fold the short way again and cut along the middle line, only between the two centre panels. The dashed line on the sheet shows where.
Push
Open the sheet, fold it the long way, and push the two ends together. The cut opens into a diamond.
Flatten
Flatten it into a booklet with the cover on the front. Repeat for the second sheet if your issue has one.
make one, or make the whole
One part: each sheet folds into its own 8-page booklet. Part i is the first half, part ii the second.
The whole zine: fold both. Lay part ii behind part i, spines together and edges lined up. Staple twice through the spine, about 2 cm from the top and bottom, or tie it with thread through two small holes. Now it reads straight through, 16 pages.
Tips: 100–120 g paper folds cleaner. Home printers leave a thin white border at the edge, which is normal. The black-and-white files save ink.
